My Favorite Characters

Probably my most favorite character of all time. Surprising, seeing as Luther's a violent tattooed gang member from LA who has misogynistic, homophobic, and other awful thoughts. And I sure didn't like him at first when starting The Familiar series (though I didn't dislike him either). Embarrassingly enough, it was shipping that got me interested in him, specifically when Luther encountered Jingjing in Volume 4. It soon escalated to me delving more into his character, and I found myself surprised at the amount of depth he has: lack of skill in fluent Spanish despite supposedly being raised in an ethnic Mexican neighborhood, a gentle side he's desperately trying to squash, inconsistent standards, and perhaps some closet bisexuality. So yeah, he's the character I think about most these days. If you're wondering about the icon for him, it's because he doesn't have any official art of him, and I can only think of him as the tag he uses in the books.

I watched ManlyBadassHero play the original Pocket Mirror back in 2016, and I was immediately enamored with the protagonist Goldia die Heilige's design. Her brown hair, cherry red eyes, and her outfit... she was so cute! I also really liked how sweet and caring she was, even to those who tried to kill or imprison her. That scene with Lisette is just the best. I know a lot of people give her flack on the lack of backbone she has, but considering the denizens of the weird world she washed up in tend to kill at the drop of a hat, I can't really blame her. Also personally: I prefer Goldia's original non-pixel sprite in the original game, moreso for the pose than anything.

Introduced only in Pocket Mirror's 'neutral' end, to cope with not uncovering all the answers throughout the game, Goldia creates a new personality for herself, dubbed Platinum. She then effectively assimilates the other girls, including Engel, expecting blind obedience from all of them. I love serene characters who possess a much darker side to them and act in a condescending-compassionate way, along with her being a huge control freak. Funnily enough, while I don't care much for Goldia's Goldenertraum sprite, I actually prefer Platinum's new sprite much more than her original. Although, I will say the original had some simple charm.

I never knew 'Warrior monk anime doggirl who yells about food everytime you use her skills' was a character that I wanted, but Arknights did deliver on this front. I also love that she's so enlightened that she has no beef with any versions of herself, best seen in her skin. Did I also mention her second skill is spammable given the right circumstances? Even after I abandoned Arknights, Saga remains very special to me.
