Anime & Manga

A list of anime and manga I've watched/read

Anime Club

Anime Club's basically just streaming anime with friends (5 others) every Thursdays (used to be Wednesdays) and Saturdays. Using Hyperbeam, we watch and react to a select anime that one of us choosed (and the chosen person is found through The Wheel). Some are great, some are mid, some are 7s, and some are Garden of Sinners and Fairy Ranmaru. Within it I have the unofficial role of screencapping certified Chat moments, something I take very seriously. The list below has picks I found significant (whether good or bad), including my thoughts on it.

  • Moriarty the Patriot: Technically this is pre-Anime Club, as only myself and two other people (one of which is a former member of Anime Club and the server itself) watched it. Really if it wasn't for the second season this one would've never made it here, as otherwise it's a neat reverse-mystery story focusing on antihero bishounen Moriarty. The second season really flies off the rails, for some reason incorporating James Bond, Jack the Ripper, and mentioning Sherlock's related to Robiespierre. The last thing isn't relevant to the overall story, but it's the thing I'm most bewildered by.
  • Death Parade: Banger OP, depressing story. A lot of thoughts on death and the afterlife- if something like that exists, anyway. Tells its story fully in the twelve episodes it has, and what a beautiful story it was. I highly recommend you check it out yourself.
  • Garden of Sinners movies: I'll be real with you on this one: there is one barely-decent movie within this series, and it's the one with Azaka in it. Everything else ranged from boring (Movies 1,2,4,5,8, the extras), awful (Movie 3), or infuriating dogshit (Movie 7). Just hearing/seeing the words 'homicidal killer' makes my blood boil. Otherwise had a lot of rambling no one cared for. The guy who picked this series still insists we didn't get it and we should rewatch.
  • Karekano: The last few episodes may have been lacking, but the rest is a delightful highschool romance. Also features Peropero my beloved, of whom I made sure to screenshot as many instances of him as I could.
  • Yona of the Dawn: My first pick for Anime Club! This is one of the first animes I watched, and I'm happy to say the rest of us enjoyed it as well. Shin-ah was my first anime crush, I won't lie. Him and Ao (the squirrel) are so cute :3
  • Haibane Renmei: This is technically also pre-Anime Club, as me and one other person (same former member) watched the first few episodes after he recommended it to me. This ended up being my pick for Season 2 Anime Club (aka my second pick) since I wanted to finish it in memory of him. The rest turned out to be pretty slow and vague, which was pretty boring. Don't get me wrong, vagueness in fiction is good, but there needs to be a balance between vagueness and answers: otherwise the overall experience will feel unrewarding.
  • Fruits Basket: My pick for Anime Club Season 3, and one of the first animes I watched, if not the first! I watched this in my childhood, back when anime could be watched on Youtube. I only had vague memories of what happened in it by the time we started watching, so even I was shocked by a few things: namely, the sovl filler episodes, Ayame Sohta, and Tohru's amazing gal friends. The last few episodes did kinda peter out, but still overall just as good as I remember. Do note that we watched the old version and not the reboot.
  • ODDTAXI: My fourth pick for Aniclub S4, which was a gimmick season- basically pick an anime that was produced post-2020. This is actually an anime I hadn't watched before then, but it's something I've been really interested by. The different plots eventually interlinking to form one cohesive story, the mystery- honestly, it gives me TF vibes.
  • Drifters: Revolution combined with historical characters- Fate vibes, anyone?. Quite fun, but the last few episodes had kinda shitty subs that dampened the whole experience.
  • Fairy Ranmaru: For a while, KNK was the lowest any of our picks had gotten. This changed in Season 2, when a friend changed his pick from Akame ga Kill to Fairy Ranmaru, all because another friend of his said it had bondage in it. Not only was the bondage presence minimal, it set a new low for Anime Club. The only redeeming part was the existence of Anime Club filler- namely, Di Gi Charat.
  • Girls Band Cry: The first pick of Aniclub Season 4, which was a gimmick season- basically pick an anime that was produced post-2020. Despite being an anime about music, most of the music was mid at best. The characters tended to be overly melodramatic in a way that wasn't enjoyable. Funnily enough, the other picks for Season 4 were pretty good, it was just this one that was kinda bad. Still unsure why it's so popular.
